Everything always happens rather fast!

I know as children, Christmas takes ages to arrive but for us adults, December passes us by in a blur of nativity plays, card writing, present buying, work do's and family planning! I have spent several months creating all the sparkly stuff and its always so rewarding to hear how popular it is. This display is in Chameleon Boutique in Bexhill and I think we have every colour requirement covered!

So, whilst I, like you, struggle against a tide of mince pies and present tags, I am now also thinking about spring jewels, warmer sunshine and new season colours...

New charms, pendants and pearls coming soon! xx

Christmas is just around the corner...

Jewellery is always such a great gift idea at Christmas; I love listening to people describing what they want or what their friends or family wear and trying to match up the jewels with the picture in their mind!

On Saturday Mingels Marvels will be at Herstmonceux School Christmas Fair. Its the only fair that I 'do' and half the table is given over to children's necklaces and bracelets which are super popular as stocking fillers and pocket money purses!

With December only a week away, all the Christmas sparkles are now actually made which means my mind is already wandering to spring, but until then, have a lovely time choosing your gifts and a fabulous festive season xx

And the glitter arrives!

All of a sudden, all the new beads and pendants have arrived, ready for next month! I have been a little busy with all the sparkly beads but I couldn't wait to start making things for our school Christmas fair! I only sell children's jewellery at this time of year, and these are perfect as stocking fillers, or gifts from one little friend to another...

Going to move on to some lilac & blue necklaces next.

Shh, sparkly season approaches!

I have just placed orders for beads for Christmas! I know, its still a couple of months away, but I have a couple of Christmas fairs and a party to do so I needed to get organised! Whilst I wait for my new stuff to arrive (I like to lay everything out once its all here!) I thought I had better top up on what's popular so far this season...

These beautiful faceted beads are doing so well, and I think its because they are sparkly but still small and subtle, plus there are so many colour combinations! I have created some necklaces within a colour band like this green - grey one and red - browns.

But these necklaces & bracelets are a lot more mixed, and give a great range of colours! Perfect for winter clothes that tend to be darker, or that little black dress...

The beauty of cane glass

I absolutely love cane beads, for the variety of shapes and shades whilst still creating an overall colour. This blue necklace which I made at the beginning of the week, and the obvious shade of blue within it but also streaks of white, purple, orange and green which really adds to the interest of the necklace. It also creates a beautiful pattern effect which is a bonus for anyone like me who tends to wear plain colours!
I tried to use the size as a guide, so that the necklace has weight in the middle (and the catch doesn't work its way round your neck!) and tapers off at the clasp.

This is my favourite from the batch I made this week - such a gorgeous but almost muted mix of shades. In other words, it will go with all those neutrals in the wardrobe! There are so many different shades here, it would be easy to pick one out with your clothes...

Its hard to find beads that look exactly alike for pairs of earrings, but I did manage to make two pairs to match both of these necklaces. And then I used some more random but still muted, autumn-ish beads to create the bracelet!

Rockin' the block

Sorting through my stock last month, I set aside a few items that weren't quite right for one reason or another with the intention of reworking. Finally, I have finished! I really love the block colours effect with these beads which are by themselves quite pale. Put them all in a row and pow!! xx

13164/5 Blue glass with natural shades of wood
I love the different types of beads here, and they all come together for a neutral but striking effect.

14058 / 14081 cool shades with natural wood coins
Although the blocks of colour make these necklaces asymmetrical the central natural wood coins create harmony for the eyes!

14051/80/82 A perfect mix of colour bracelets
Personally, I would wear all three at once, but individually each is a great mix of colour, perfect to brighten up a neutral wardrobe.

I heart autumn!

12192 & 3 Faceted love

These beautiful faceted glass hearts and glass pearls are the colour of conkers! As soon as I saw them I felt autumnal and since its so lovely and warm still, your fabulous jewellery isn't hidden behind layers of scarves and long sleeves!

Feeling blue...

Glass earrings, £6 pair

Battle's beads transformed into four pairs of beautiful blue earrings. As you can see from the picture, if you prefer to have your jewels hung on an earring post rather than the usual hook style, it's no problem!

Each pair is £6, apart from the bottom left ones which I have sneaked into my own jewellery box ;-)

Its just an illusion...

Illusion beads are great; super lightweight and a fantastic range of colours. The random mix is great in the summer (and of course will go with everything) but is equally brilliant for brightening up a winter jumper.

Available as round beads as well as the oval shape shown here, the bracelets go particularly well with the dichroic pendants and earrings add a splash of zing as summer fades...

Aren't these pendants totally gorgeous?! I was so pleased when they arrived, I had to order more, for a birthday gift and myself!
Every pendant is different - shape, size, pattern - they are so incredible! These five are currently in Chameleon boutique, Bexhill, and you can buy coordinating bracelets and earrings if you fancy it!
(I have used 18" silver plated chains)

Sunny September...

Isn't it lovely to welcome September with sunshine?! I am looking forward to sharing the new autumn jewels over the next few weeks, and what's catching my eye for the next round of designs! The Dichroic pendants are now available in Chameleon Boutique as well as direct and are being very well received, as are the cube designs - a little bit of sparkle all round!
Happy September, xx

Coming soon...

Look at these little beauties! I have been looking for some new styles to add to Mingels Marvels, and in addition to the new crystal cube designs I decided to splash out on these! So Very Lush

All wrapped up

Not sure which necklaces and bracelets to pack for the hols? Perhaps you were hoping to avoid having to take different pieces for each outfit? Why not halve your jewellery pile with these gorgeous wrap bracelets which can also be worn as a necklace.
The pendant and semi-precious stone add enough weight for these to hang beautifully but are also small enough to look great as a charm when worn as a triple wrap bracelet.

I can't decide which I love more; the aqua beads in the first bracelet or the smoky quartz in the second!

Its a miracle!

We may be hoping that summer stretches into late September, but in the fashion world they are already talking next spring! I am not that far ahead, but there is certainly only 4 or 5 weeks left of summer jewellery. Before I launch into the autumn beads, I try to recap on what has sold over the spring and summer and if I am feeling really organised, even go so far as to buy more beads ready for next year!

So, what did it for Mingels Marvels this season? Certain styles and colours do well year after year - you can't knock turquoise for giving us that blue skies & beach feeling. But aside from the blues and the thong necklaces & wrap bracelets, the biggest winner has to be the miracle bead!

Pictured here in its full colour spectrum, these pieces are so popular just because of the colours available and the little bit of zazz you get in every bead. Whether you want full on colour to match every top in the wardrobe, or maybe a pastel mix or a bit of colour co-ordination, there is truly a miracle necklace waiting for you... (or at least for the next 4 or 5 weeks!)

Extra beautiful in real life!

Its often very hard to buy beads online - the rights colours, the right sizes - and its just as hard to buy jewellery too! These faceted glass cubes are so beautiful, and the colour combinations look amazing but until you see them around your neck, you'll never appreciate how much I love them!

Simply stunning

Sometimes all you need is the simplest of strands to show off a summer glow...

White seed beads are the perfect background for a mix of glass and Swarovski crystals; choose your favourite combination or why not go for a random mix of colour which is guaranteed to go with everything!

Available with charms or without, and bracelets come in a single or double strand...

Pink to make the boys wink

The great thing about pink is the huge range of shades; no matter whether you are into pastels or purples or prefer your pink a little hotter, there are so many beads to choose from.
Here, the antique silver spacers stop the beautiful pale pink faceted beads from being 'too pretty' and the natural barrel beads are perfect for a summers day...
xx

p.s. the lavender smells nice too!

Feeling chipper!

I love these acrylic chips for all their many wonderful colours and textures. What a great way to add a new colour or jazz up the outfit!
Available multi coloured with or without a silver charm...

The stretchy bracelets are gone!! Always popular in the summer, this style creates a 'stacked effect' in one easy go and has plenty of colour and texture to wear with lots of different outfits. But, somehow, I have been caught out by demand so guess what I will be making in the sunshine over the next few days!!
xx

p.s. if you are fortunate enough to be planning on some beach or pool time, these bracelets pull straight off (no clasps) so no time delay on jumping into the water!

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

Tagua bracelets are also very popular, and there are lots of weird and wonderful coordinating beads to use! They look gorgeous with silver but equally, with so many 'safari' colours available, look great with a little gold.
xx
Feeling a little bit nutty?!

Tagua beads are slices of nut that are then dyed an amazing range of colours. Each slice is only 3 or 4 mm thick which means the finished jewellery is super light and the colours still allow the natural textures & shades to show through.
I first spotted these beads at London Fashion Show and the necklaces were selling for a small fortune! However, the colours and shapes make the jewellery so unusual, they are worth every penny and are a very popular range in the boutique...

Business or pleasure?

I started making jewellery because I loved it and still do today - there is so much all around us to inspire new designs and there are so many beads to try! So when my old, static 'business' website became such a bore to maintain I switched to the blog; much more me I thought, and much more 'pleasure'. But now, I am running low on business cards and am starting to wonder if I should buy more. They cost a lot and are a bit, well, static! Perhaps I should create something of my own to slip in with the jewellery - something with my details on but also something a little more interesting, that changes with the beads, the styles and the seasons.
For me, making jewellery, keeping the costs low for my customers; that's pleasure. And I am thinking that business cards are definitely, maybe, not...

I love purple

I confess to very rarely wearing patterns and there are some colours I just don't touch (ok, I have a purple, patterned scarf but that's it!) which is why I love a bit of mix when it comes to my jewellery...
The shades in this necklace make it versatile with your clothes, reduces the need for more jewellery in the suitcase and adds a splash of interest to whatever you wear!
Long live purple... providing its in my jewellery, not my wardrobe!

Who needs spring?!

Every year it's the same - one minute it's layers of wool, the next it's layers of sun tan lotion! So for everyone who has bravely stripped off, ready for the UK sunshine, here is a little something from the summer collection...
Glass, semi precious stones, wood, silver - its all here, with a sprinkling of golden sands!

Something fine...

One of my customers in the boutique last week spent some time remarking on the lack of fine jewellery - she felt it was all a bit chunky for her and especially with the warmer months coming up! So, for everyone who prefers a little slip of necklace to show off a summer neckline here is a more delicate mix of Swarovski crystals and white beads...

Cube Bracelet

Ok, here is my first cubic creation! I cannot go on enough about how lovely the colours are... looking forward to making a necklace next,

Cube beads!

So, talking of inspiration... It took a while to find the right supplier who could offer high quality beads in a range of colours... but I found them!!

These cubes have a faceted edge, which along with the AB (mirror) coating, gives them the most amazing sparkle.

Now all I have to decide is which colour with which; any suggestions?

A necklace of many colours

The great thing about a multi colour necklace is that its guaranteed to match more than one thing in your wardrobe! Plus, its a great chance to introduce a colour that you might not consider wearing otherwise.
Mixing so many colours with a splash of silver is guaranteed to add a little bit of summer to your day...

Some summer style bracelets to co-ordinate with the thong necklaces. A double wrap to really give a great mix of colour and bead style... with a charm for the beach!
I made these fabulous summer styles a little while ago, in anticipation of warmer weather to come! The thong necklace is always a winner in summer along with the mix of silver and bright wood. Now what they really need is a matching bracelet...

Welcome - again!

Somehow, I got distracted and instead of updating you here, I was busy making jewellery and sharing all the news on the Facebook page. So, my apologies and a warm welcome to what will henceforth be a regular chat about the jewellery I am making and the sometimes peculiar sources of inspiration. Any time you want to make a comment, please do - I love a chat about beads!
